The Brazilian Hideaway You’ve Been Dreaming Of

Visitors entering Sertão Portinari are greeted by a majestic sight. The entrance is framed by a portico covered in Grand Metal ballast, setting the tone for an environment that celebrates earthy tones and the spirit of the Brazilian heartland. The color scheme, inspired by the works of the country’s greatest artist, exudes rusticity, elegance, and a touch of enchantment. A towering Mandacarú cactus stands as a symbol of the sertanejo region, welcoming guests with open arms.

Once inside, intimate lighting bathes the entire space, its floors covered with the Boulevard collection, creating the illusion of beaten earth. The earthy palette dominates, broken only by the joyful blue of the Acqua porcelain, representing the sky and water. This touch of blue encapsulates the sertanejo’s faith in the promise of rain, where life goes beyond the obvious and reveals the beauty in everyday details. The entire setting embodies the art of everyday life and a lively sertão.

The project, brought to life by Nildo José, weaves integrated and fluid spaces, rooted in Brazilianness. Cozy interiors feature a minimalistic approach, combining organic shapes and straight lines in perfect harmony. The environment is encircled by a brise made from Senses Decor bricks, reminiscent of the rammed earth construction style that utilizes clay and wood to build walls. This union of rusticity and innovation with porcelain tiles creates a unique ambiance.

Portinari’s porcelain tiles showcase their versatility in the home office and kitchen, with the grandeur of Gran Metal ballast. The central bench, adorned with straw details and crafted by Ornare, serves both as a cooking station and a place to share good times.

In the heart of the space stands a circular island that divides the house’s functions. On one side, a bar and a fireplace create a cozy lounge, while on the other, a bathroom with glass elements and a mirror by Silvestre Vidros connects to the bedroom. The bedroom features a Double Bed by Wentz Design, providing a space of comfort and relaxation.

The environment is a multifaceted space that includes a living room, lounge, kitchen, dining room, and master suite with a home office. Deca tableware and metals shine in the kitchen and bathroom. The ceilings and walls showcase Duratex coverings in the Nogueira Veneto pattern, a contemporary take on classic Italian walnut, blending tradition with the modern.

The dining room and gourmet space feature a rectangular table designed by Sandra Ortho Esculturas, with Bambolê chairs by +55 Design completing the ensemble. In the living room, an expansive light fixture adds a casual air to the space, which also boasts the impressive Sofá Abapo by Roberta Banqueri.

Furniture from both established and emerging designers adorns the space, including the Poltronas Paraty by Sério Rodrigues, the Kanga armchair by Ricardo Van Steen, Ondine armchairs by Jorge Zalszupin, Cordial Armchair by Victor Vasconcelos, and MP97 armchairs by Percival Lafer, among others.

The integration of technology brings the space to life. Projectors create a dynamic experience, projecting real images of cracked earth, the sounds of rainwater, and children playing in puddles. The soundtrack further immerses visitors in the sertão’s atmosphere, with nods to the rezadeiras, accordions, and other enchanting elements of the region.

At the heart of the space stands a central artwork titled “Os Brasileiros,” created by the artist Juraci Dórea. A master of various art forms, Dórea’s work blends contemporary visual languages with the country’s rich traditions, creating a piece that encapsulates the spirit of the sertão and the essence of Brazilianness.
