Located in Copenhagen’s Islands Brygge harbour district, Peter’s House stands as a testament to the ingenuity of Studio David Thulstrup, who skillfully transformed a former factory building into a stunning residence for renowned Danish photographer Peter Krasilnikoff. Throughout the conversion process, the design team, led by founder David Thulstrup, displayed a remarkable commitment to preserving the building’s industrial heritage while infusing it with contemporary elements that elevate its allure.
A key feature of the property, the striking glass atrium, serves as a central focal point, suffusing the three-story structure with natural light and infusing it with a captivating greenery display. Inspired by Krasilnikoff’s desire for an indoor garden, the atrium boasts an arrangement of carefully selected plants and grasses, evoking the essence of a serene Scandinavian woodland. Mirrored paneling cleverly integrated into each floor accentuates the sense of spaciousness, contributing to a seamless interplay between the various levels.
Upon stepping inside, visitors are greeted by a seamless blend of restored brick walls and contemporary materials that create a harmonious and inviting ambiance. The ground floor, adorned with blackened steel panels and a bespoke terrazzo island, houses the kitchen, dining area, and living room, where floor-to-ceiling curtains crafted by renowned Danish brand Kvadrat add a touch of sophistication. A central staircase crafted from perforated, blackened steel elegantly wraps around the atrium, leading to the upper levels.
Ascending to the mezzanine level, one is greeted by a serene haven featuring light oak flooring, walls, and soft grey curtains. This floor encompasses the master bedroom, complete with a luxurious en-suite bathroom featuring terrazzo detailing, as well as ample storage and wardrobe space.
A glass office room on the second floor opens up to a verdant rooftop garden adorned with wooden flooring and sheltered seating, providing a tranquil escape amidst the bustling city. Externally, the building is clad in vertical strips of Brazilian hardwood that will gracefully weather to a silvery grey over time, adding to the property’s timeless appeal.
Studio David Thulstrup’s remarkable transformation of Peter’s House serves as a testament to the firm’s dedication to creating spaces that seamlessly blend functionality, elegance, and a deep appreciation for architectural heritage.
